Dealers are selling thousands of second-hand cars with potentially deadly faults. Safety checks found an astonishing FIVE OUT OF TEN used cars were too dangerous to drive away. Faults including defective brakes, dodgy steering, badly-worn tyres and broken headlights were revealed during an undercover trading standards probe into Britain’s 20billion-a-year used car market. Experts bought 10 cars, up to 12 years old and costing between 340 and 1,100, from garages in Hertfordshire.

‘New commuters’ abandon cars to cut gas expenditure

Andy Farm, 30, rides his bike each day from Woodfin. His route down Riverside Drive to Broadway and downtown takes him about 20 minutes. “You do it every day, you keep yourself in pretty good shape,” he said. He’s a cook at Rosetta’s Kitchen, and he’s saving a ton of money not driving his truck, he said. “I can afford the gas,” he said. “But this way I can go one month, maybe two months without putting gas in the car.” The drawbacks include getting caught in the rain.

Stutzke isn’t bitter. He loves Ford’s product line. But he faults the automaker’s management for poor decisions a few years ago. “It’s not that the product they have isn’t good. They haven’t responded to the public’s needs fast enough. They haven’t had the small cars and niche products that people want, at least in California,” Stutzke says.

We always joke that it looks like a Ford used-car lot out there, said Bair, of Lee s Summit. Whether at work or play, Tony Bautista also drives an F-150. I ve been driving a truck for 20 years, and that s all I ve ever driven, said Bautista, a plumber for Saladino Plumbing Heating Co.
